Welfare & mercy

Freely we have received; freely we give — care for widows, the homeless, and partners like Grannies, Sinakekele, and Mozambique.

We are recipients of the greatest gift — the love, grace, and mercy of Jesus Christ. “Having freely received, we freely give.”

The First Baptist welfare department began unofficially in 1995 with a few members sensitive to the needy; it became an official part of the church in 2000. Scripture constantly calls us to remember the poor; we trust that “the poor you will always have with you” as a call to compassion, not complacency.

The work is funded by members and friends outside FBC who want to share in mercy.

Who we help

By dependence on the Holy Spirit, we care for widows, the homeless, those in financial distress, and anyone who needs a tangible touch of our Lord’s indescribable love.

Oversight: Brother Mickey Chinsamy (as named in our church newsletter).

Partner ministries

Over the years we have partnered with:

  • Grannies orphanage — care for street children
  • Sinakekele — care for abandoned babies
  • Mozambique missions — alongside workers we support in cross-border gospel work

We also help supply gospel tracts and Bibles to other churches and soup kitchens, recognising spiritual need as well as physical hunger.
